Italian Cream Cake

Ingredients
  1. Butter 1/2 cup
  2. Shortening 1/2 cup
  3. Sugar, granulated 2 cups
  4. Yolks 5 each
  5. Flour, A. P. 2 cups
  6. Baking soda 1 tsp.
  7. Vanilla 1 tsp.
  8. Coconut, shredded 1 cup
  9. Pecans chopped 1 cup
  10. Egg whites 5 each
  11. Milk or buttermilk 1 cup
  12. Pecans, whole halves 18-20 each
  13. Cream cheese icing about 6 cups
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 F. Butter and flour three 8 - 9 inch pans.
  2. Cream butter and shortening. Add sugar and egg yolks.
  3. Add the dry ingredients alternately with milk. add coconut and pecans. Whip egg whites to medium peak, fold in beaten eggs whites to cake batter.
