CHOCOLATE APPLESAUCE CAKE

Ingredients
- 1/2 c. margarine or butter
- 1 1/4 c. sugar
- 1 c. apple sauce
- 4 sq. unsweetened chocolate melted
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 4 eggs
- 2 1/2 c. flour
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 c. buttermilk
- 1 c. chocolate chips
- Frosting
- 1 c. br. Sugar
- 4 Tbsp. butter
- 1/2 heavy cream (whipping cream)
- 1 c. chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 deg. Grease 9 x 13 in. pan and dust with flour.
- Beat butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat in apple sauce, vanilla and eggs, one at a time. Stir in baking powder, baking soda, half the flour, then stir in milk; then the rest of the flour and choc. chips. Pour into pan, smooth evenly.
- Bake 35 - 40 min. until it tests done with a toothpick. Cool completely in pan.
- Combine all the frosting ingredients and heat over med. heat. Bring to a boil. Reduce to a simmer and cook 3 min. Cool in freezer or fridge, and spread on cake.
