CHOCOLATE APPLESAUCE CAKE
The homemade caramel, makes this cake!

Ingredients
  1. 1/2 c. margarine or butter
  2. 1 1/4 c. sugar
  3. 1 c. apple sauce
  4. 4 sq. unsweetened chocolate melted
  5. 1 tsp. cinnamon
  6. 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  7. 4 eggs
  8. 2 1/2 c. flour
  9. 2 tsp baking soda
  10. 1 tsp baking powder
  11. 1/2 c. buttermilk
  12. 1 c. chocolate chips
  13. Frosting
  14. 1 c. br. Sugar
  15. 4 Tbsp. butter
  16. 1/2 heavy cream (whipping cream)
  17. 1 c. chocolate chips
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 deg. Grease 9 x 13 in. pan and dust with flour.
  2. Beat butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat in apple sauce, vanilla and eggs, one at a time. Stir in baking powder, baking soda, half the flour, then stir in milk; then the rest of the flour and choc. chips. Pour into pan, smooth evenly.
  3. Bake 35 - 40 min. until it tests done with a toothpick. Cool completely in pan.
  4. Combine all the frosting ingredients and heat over med. heat. Bring to a boil. Reduce to a simmer and cook 3 min. Cool in freezer or fridge, and spread on cake.
