An modern twist to the old fashion Eastern North Carolina wood cooked BBQ pork, and it’s traditional sides.
The owner “Sam Jones’ is the grandson of the late Pete Jones, who opened the Legendary Skylight Inn (located in Ayden, NC) in 1947 where Sam has been involved since a very early age.
Wood cooked whole hogs was the tradition of his grandfather BBQ restaurant , Sam has brought that tradition to his new operation. When you walk up the the restaurant you can see and smell the smoke house building in use.
They specialize in pulled BBQ pork, BBQ chicken, smoked turkey and BBQ ribs. These meals come either 1-3 meat combs with fresh home cooked sides.
If you want a sandwich, try their famous BBQ pulled pork sandwiches. That’s not the only sandwich though, their Pulled Chicken, Chicken Club, Smoked Turkey, 1947 Burger, Smoked Chicken Salad and Pimento Cheese are very popular.
What kind of sides you ask! Mac & Cheese, Potato salad, Cole Slaw, and baked beans.
Debbie and I shared a 2 meat combo of BBQ pork and chicken with slaw and mac & cheese as our sides. What a meal!
